Numerous former Illini are trying to maker there way in the NBA, I figured I’d provide a quick summation of how they have fared thus far in preseason action. I will try and give an update on former Illini in the NBA about once a week.
My apologies for the hard to read stat lines – one more glorious feature of the blogspot is that it does not recognize tabs, tables or anything related to creative spacing!

*Deron = 2nd most minutes, jazz won
*Luther = second most minutes, best shooting percentage (besides Roy Hibbert’s 3-3), Indiana loses
*Warren = That is a lot of zeros! 19 people on the roster, will have to improve to win a spot... still nice that he’s getting a chance and may click in New York’s up-tempo offensive style
*Pruitt = he got minutes (a few), hit his free throws (what???), had some rebounds, and blocked a shot... the Golden State Roster is at 15, so he may have a small chance to stick
Coming up:
Brian Cook (Houston) vs. San Antonio (today at 7:30 CST)

Pruitt (GS) vs. Lakers (Wednesday at 9:00 CST)
Cook (Houston) vs. Boston (Wednesday at 7:30 CST)
Luther (Indiana) vs. Denver (Thursday at 6:30 CST)
Cook (Houston) vs. Orland (Friday at 7:00 CST)
Warren Carter (NY) vs. Boston (Friday at 6:30 CST)
Pruitt (GS) vs. Lakers (Friday at 9:00 CST)
Question: Where’s James Augustine? He was on a few summer league rosters and played well. Did he take another contract in Europe? The fact that Sean Pruitt and Warren Carter can be on an active NBA roster while James is not gives a quick glimpse at the complexity of contracts and NBA salary rules.

Pruitt is a lock to make Golden State. Provided that he has learned to make free throws, use his right hand, play defense, gotten taller, and learned to read.
ReplyDeleteIt is too bad about James, maybe he'll get picked up midseason.
